In 1852 Louis and Samuel Fasnacht purchased some property on Poeyfarre St and started Fasnacht Brewery. They sold the brewery in 1865 to Erath and Company Brewery . New Orleans Brewing Co.(1890) was founded out of a six brewery merger at the site of Louisiana Brewing Co.(1885) located at Jackson Ave. & Tchoupitoulas St., brands included: Eagle Beer, Double Eagle Ale, and 4-X Beer. Jax Brewery opened in 1891 on Decatur St., Columbia Brewing (1894) on Elysian Fields, National Brewing Co., Dixie Beer (1907), Union Brewing Co. (1912) on N.Robertson, Regal made at American Brewing Co. on Bienville St., and Falstaff (1936). The next chapter of Brewing in Louisiana began in 1986 with the opening of Abita Brewing Co. In recent years other craft breweries have opened and the brewing culture is developing.
